Our CompanyHistory

Dr. Moir D. Haug started M.D. Haug and Associates Ltd. in 1980 as a geotechnical engineering consulting and research firm. In the late 1980s its first laboratory was opened, specializing in triaxial permeability testing. The firm relocated to the Innovation Place research park on the University of Saskatchewan grounds in 1994 and teamed up with Dr. E. Karl Sauer, a world leader in geotechnical engineering. In 1995 Dr. Malcolm Reeves joined the firm to provide advanced expertise in engineering geology, hydrogeology and computer modelling. Two years later, in 1997, an expanded laboratory facility was opened and in 1999 M.D. Haug and Associates introduced a mobile field lab and office facility to meet the demands of large-scale field projects.

In 2001, M.D. Haug and Associates changed its name to MDH Engineered Solutions Ltd. (MDH) and expanded its area of service by opening an office in Edmonton. In 2003, E.K. Sauer Consulting Ltd. became a wholly owned subsidiary of MDH. In 2005, MDH initiated a joint venture with North Rim Exploration Ltd. to provide resource consulting services to Canadian First Nations groups. Continued expansion resulted in satellite consulting offices being opened in Whitehorse, YK, and Regina, SK. In 2006, MDH became an employee-owned company.

On June 30, 2011, MDH joined the SNC-Lavalin group of companies. In December 2011, MDH acquired Harder Associates. By May 2012, MDH had expanded to include offices in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, and Esterhazy in Saskatchewan; Calgary, Edmonton, Fort McMurray and Grande Prairie in Alberta; and Vancouver, Fort Nelson and Fort St. John in British Columbia.
